What the CPNP-PC costs, exam to first renewals

Facts read from pncb.org and 1 more · last checked Nov 7, 2026

PNCB charges one price to everyone, so there is no membership sum to run. The real difference from other NP boards comes after the exam: renewal is billed every year, and its price depends on how and when you submit.

The bill in the order it arrives

  1. Application: $407, paid once, of which $134 is a registration fee the board keeps even if you withdraw in time.
  2. The board's own practice tools (optional): $52 for a 75-question module with rationales, or $26 for a 50-question drill with answers only (exam resources, archived May 2026).
  3. Running short of time: a single 90-day extension is $155. Letting the window lapse without one forfeits all fees.
  4. A retest: $288, after a review course or the contact hours required first (retest rule). Budget for the course or hours as well.
  5. Renewal from the next enrollment on: every year, with the price set by method and month; details are on recertification.

How the first years add up

  • Pass first time, no extras: one exam fee, then the first renewal in the enrollment after the year you pass.
  • One practice module and a pass: the exam fee plus the module; the drill is cheaper but has no explanations.
  • A fail and a pass: the exam fee, the retest fee and a review course or hours, with at least the wait for the official result in between.
  • Renewal over a seven-year cycle: two Pediatric Updates modules a year is the cheapest line on PNCB's fee table at the November early-bird price of $0 / $90 (modules / contact hours); submitting in February costs $141 / $231.

Against the other NP boards

NPCB and ANCC both price their exams by association membership and renew every five years, so their costs come in larger, rarer bills. Those models are on NPCB certification and ANCC NP certification. For this exam, membership in a pediatric association does not lower this fee; any value it has lies elsewhere, such as review courses or conference hours that count toward renewal.

PNCB fees, quick answers

Is there a discount for NAPNAP members on the PNCB exam?

Not on the pages we checked. The board lists a single fee, with no member price, in the handbook revised October 2025.

Is any of the fee refunded if I withdraw?

Part of it: the exam portion comes back after a timely written withdrawal, the registration portion never does. The deadline is under booking.

Can my employer pay?

Yes. PNCB's No Pass, No Pay program lets an employer pay through a charge code; a no-show uses up the code, and the reduced retake fee does not apply to code users (handbook, p. 13).
